Overview

The After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is directed by Mrs. Rachel Duree, and is staffed by our very own GSES teachers who are willing to share their time and expertise to enrich the after school experience for our children. Class offerings vary by age, and we offer themed classes that meet once or twice a week. Registration occurs just prior to the start of the school year and while the themed classes fill up quickly, we offer an unstructured option called Stay ‘n Play from 1:00 – 2:00 PM for all GSES students.

Meet the Director

Rachel Duree

I moved to Austin thirteen years ago in search of love and adventure, and I was fortunate to find both. My husband and I live in Circle C with our two amazing little boys that keep us busy and make our hearts so very full. My oldest son Matthew is heading into fifth grade and my tiny love Noah will be in second. They are both proud Good Shepherd graduates and jump at any opportunity to go back and visit. In my free time I enjoy traveling, cheering the loudest at my kids’ sporting events, and taking on the occasional home design project. I have been a teacher at Good Shepherd since 2012 and I feel incredibly grateful to spend my days doing what I love most.  I am passionate about all things child development and truly enjoy these magical early childhood years.

Stay 'n Play offers a peaceful, unstructured afternoon hour for all children to attend on the days that they are enrolled at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. It is directed and staffed by our own teachers Monday through Friday from 1:00 until 2:00. It is a time for the children to play together after a busy day at school, and a time of flexibility for those attending After School Enrichment Programs.

Krafty Kids encourages creativity in each child by providing a variety of hands-on projects. Various art mediums and supplies are used for special creations. Students have fun making a mess while crafting one-of-a-kind projects. Each week the children make their own project that is teacher led, but kid inspired! This class is taught by our Fours lead teacher, Ms. Elizabeth Fehr. The children enjoy her excitement and fun way of teaching!

In this class children are exposed to the Spanish language in an age-appropriate way through traditional songs, stories, and games. The teachers interact with the children in Spanish as they play and participate in art activities that immerse them in basic vocabulary such as colors, size, animal names and clothing. In addition, Hispanic food tasting will occasionally be a part of the class. Senora Alma Rivera is a Fours assistant teacher and enjoys sharing her love of the language and culture with all children!

We also provide opportunities for each child to learn and experience good sportsmanship by working together. This class is taught by Sheryl Johnson, who is a Bridging Kindergarten assistant at GSES. Art is an expression of emotions and perceptions. When children discover and experience the different methods and materials in art, they acquire and develop new problem-solving abilities and expand their horizons. This class is taught by our Bridging Kindergarten assistant teacher, Ms. Jennifer Timmermans. Jennifer’s love of everything artistic will certainly inspire your budding artist!
